CCTV Video Inspection – Precise Diagnostics with HD Technology

CCTV video inspection is today one of the most important tools to truly understand the internal condition of a pipeline. However, the quality of the diagnosis depends entirely on the quality of the equipment. And this is where we take a clear step ahead in the Portuguese market.

At REVIPOX, we have recently started using a next-generation HD inspection system, equipped with a tracked crawler robot and high-definition rotating cameras. This allows a much clearer, more detailed and more reliable view of the inside of the pipes — something that is still, honestly, rare to find in Portugal.

High-Definition Cameras: seeing what used to go unnoticed

The biggest difference is the sharpness.
With our HD camera, we are able to detect fine cracks, early-stage erosion, deformities, poorly executed joints, capillary infiltrations, and all those small signs that normally don’t appear with traditional low-resolution systems.

The image is clearer, more stable, and allows much safer technical decisions — whether for epoxy rehabilitation, CIPP lining or localized repairs.

Motorized crawler for buried pipes and collectors

In addition to the push cameras we use inside buildings — for risers and internal branches — we now also have a crawler robot that travels through buried pipelines and outdoor collectors with total stability.
This allows full inspections of diameters between 150 mm and 1000 mm, with perfect HD visibility even along longer lengths and curved sections.

The robot is equipped with:

• 360º rotating camera head with laser

• accurate position/depth measurement

• powerful LED lighting

• adjustable traction for multiple pipe diameters

This represents a huge upgrade in diagnostic quality for buildings, condominiums and buried networks.

Professional reports following EN 13508-2

Our inspections include:

• full HD video

• photos of every anomaly

• exact location of the defect (metering)

• technical report following EN 13508-2

• repair recommendations (epoxy, CIPP, patch, replacement, etc.)

We use software compatible with WinCan, ensuring that the report is clear, standardized and internationally recognized.

The most advanced technology available today

We don’t like making exaggerated claims, but as far as we know, very few companies in Portugal work with true HD systems equipped with a crawler and a rotating camera head for pipeline inspections.
Most still use SD or 720p cameras, which don’t capture the essential details needed for rehabilitation.

When should you request a CCTV video inspection?

It is recommended when there are:

• leaks between floors

• sewage backflow

• noises inside risers

• persistent odors

• suspicion of rupture or deformation

• old plumbing (1960s–1990s)

• rehabilitation or remodeling planning

Always Compare the Quality of the Camera Used

Before hiring a video inspection service, it’s important to know what type of camera the company uses.
The difference between an old SD camera and a modern Full HD system is huge — and it can determine whether a crack, infiltration or deformation is detected or completely missed.

Many defects are only visible with high definition and proper lighting.
For this reason, we always recommend asking about the real resolution of the camera, whether it has a rotating head, laser measurement, and whether the report follows standards such as EN 13508-2.
A good decision starts with a good diagnosis, and that diagnosis always depends on the quality of the image.
