Epoxy vs CIPP – which solution is right?

Not all pipe problems require the same type of intervention. Two of the most commonly used solutions today are epoxy internal lining and CIPP structural rehabilitation.

Although both allow intervention without invasive works, they are fundamentally different approaches with distinct objectives. Understanding this difference is essential to choosing the right solution.

Epoxy lining

Epoxy lining involves applying a resin layer inside the existing pipe, with the goal of restoring watertightness and protecting the internal surface.

It is suitable for:

• micro-cracks

• localized infiltration

• internal wear of the pipe

Epoxy acts as a sealing and protective layer and is effective when the pipe remains structurally stable.

Structural rehabilitation with CIPP

CIPP rehabilitation creates a new pipe inside the existing one, using a structural fiberglass liner cured with UV/LED light.

It is recommended when there are:

• structural cracks

• breaks or material loss

• pipe deformation

• deterioration over longer sections

In this case, the new pipe has its own structural behavior, functioning independently from the original one.
