Epoxy vs CIPP – which solution is right?

Not all pipe problems require the same type of intervention. Two of the most common solutions today are epoxy lining and CIPP structural rehabilitation.

Although both allow intervention without invasive construction works, they are fundamentally different approaches with distinct objectives. Understanding this difference is key to choosing the correct solution.

Epoxy lining

Epoxy lining consists of applying a resin layer inside the existing pipe, with the goal of restoring watertightness and protecting the internal surface.

It is suitable for:

• leaking joints

• micro cracks

• localized infiltration

• internal pipe wear

Epoxy acts as a sealing and protective layer, effective when the pipe still maintains its structural integrity.

CIPP structural rehabilitation

CIPP rehabilitation creates a new pipe inside the existing one, using a structural liner (typically fiberglass) cured with UV/LED light.

It is recommended when there are:

• structural cracks

• breaks or material loss

• pipe deformation

• degradation over long sections

In this case, the new pipe has its own structural behaviour, operating independently from the original one.
